How to dress for British Summer Time

So, I haven’t posted for a week, despite telling myself that I was 110% going to get a post up every week, however, I have been working so much lately and guess who managed to get ill, so as I write this post I am not feeling as fashionista as I was in these blog pics, but I managed to get some pictures shot in a day I had free. (I managed to get two outfits shot the week before, so I needed to get the rest done within the day.) I forced my boyfriend out of the flat with a bribe of a free coffee or cake, however, a can of Big Wave and we managed to shoot on one of Manchester’s weird ‘summer’ days, 16 degrees out, warm enough for bare legs if you are forcing yourself to wear and get use of your summer wardrobe like me, but not warm enough for a t-shirt and skirt combo, the puffer jacket usually explains this logic for me.

This blog post then, is dedicated to some ‘summer’ outfits, when it is supposedly summer, but it’s not cracking the flags yet, stay tuned for the post when Britain has a heat wave. I tried to style some outfits which were suitable for the ever-changing British climate, therefore most of the looks are outfits that can be worn with more layers or just alone, I also wanted to include a look with jeans, because let’s be honest it really isn’t ever warm enough to opt for bare legs comfortably in summer all the time, however, and often I do with working in Topshop with it always being about 25 degrees in the store. So, let’s get into this post.

Outfit 1-

For the first look, I was getting my hair cut and running some errands in town on this day, however, when I left the flat it had been raining constantly that morning, so instead of wearing a skirt, I opted for white jeans, white, yes I don’t think that it was my best idea, especially when wearing chunky boots and stomping around. However, it actually turned into the hottest day we’ve had in a while and I was wearing jeans, wonderful.

I adore this outfit, I love the neutral colour pallet with the pops of black, it is also such a figure flattering outfit and the jeans are super stretchy which is rare but such a perk. Zara are also now using cotton which is 65% ecologically grown, which is a great move by the company.

Outfit 2-

I am utterly obsessed with this look. I have been looking for the perfect oversized denim shirt for so long in order to wear it as a dress, and Zara finally delivered. They are killing the game this summer, especially the Manchester store. You can wear a piece like this with trainers, but I love it with biker boots, you can also wear it with a belt to bring shape to the outfit or let it be oversized, for a more relaxed vibe. This look is perfect for summer days with trainers or boots for a more evening vibe.

Outfit 3-

For this outfit, I really had to consider the weather, it was humid but also quite cold in the wind, so I decided to mess with proportions, which we all know I love, by having a larger silhouette on my top half, then with bare legs and biker boots, the bottom half of my body is balanced. I don’t know, I’m just obsessed with doing this, it is so chic.I paired my puffer with some distressed denim, a vintage tee and an oversized shirt, thanks to my boyfriend for oversized tees and shirts. This look is very me, basically all black, I just find that I love black, it is so timeless and I feel my best in all black.

Outfit 4-

I wore this outfit to work, as I’ve already stated it is so warm inside. I opted for a vintage tee, which I knotted to make it cropped as it was too oversized for this look. This is such a good tip for making your t-shirts cropped, if you don’t want to tuck it into a bra, this works just as well and even looks cuter! Just pull the t-shirt all to the front and tie it in a knot, it can be quite difficult to begin with, especially if it is a thick tee, just Youtube it!

I paired the tee, with the most amazing skirt from Zara, I’ve had this skirt in my wardrobe for over a year and have never worn it for some reason. It has built in cycling shorts as the slit is quite high but I love how different this piece is. I haven’t had much of a chance to use my new, vintage Burberry yet, as I have been carrying way too much lately, but this piece is ideal for days when you don’t want to carry much, I love the small and mini bag trend, as well I just think this piece is such an iconic print in fashion history and I’m obsessed.

Outfit 5-

This romper/playsuit is such a cute piece for those summer days when it is just mild, as the denim is quite chunky it’s perfect for those summer days when it’s not really hot.

I love the contrasting stitch detailing of this piece, it looks expensive, especially when paired with a chunky belt and some statement jewelry.

I can’t wait to style this look with some chunky trainers too for a less all black everything vibe.

I loved shooting for this post, however, I should probably change the title to how to style my docs, but definitely stay tuned for some ‘real’ summer looks asap, aka when the weather gets itself together.

7 Days, 7 Outfits

So I thought I’d do a week in outfits considering this week has been a busy week for me, as well as one which has been filled with 7 degrees weather, as well as 22 degrees weather, don’t ask, you’ve just got to learn to love and accept the British weather now a days.

Therefore, I thought this week would be perfect to document some diverse outfits for you. This week I have been shooting for my blog and then I ended up being employed at Topshop, so I’d say this week was an amazing and productive week for me. This week has too had a lot of change from having a new job, to continually writing new blog posts and creating new content, I feel like I’m finally getting somewhere. With working at Topshop I’m definitely upping my style game again, not that I wasn’t before but I felt as though I was definitely becoming a bit lazy with my choices, for example repeating outfits. So, this new job is amazing for my wardrobe too as I’m constantly around clothes, therefore I’m being inspired with outfit ideas all the time. As well, I am reusing items in my wardrobe which I’d either, to be honest, forgotten about or fell out of love with but I am now loving again.

Day 1-

To kick-start the week of multiple temperatures, it was freezing in Manchester. I wanted to wear something other than flares or trousers paired with trainers for once so I opted for jeans in what feels like a century. I paired the jeans with an oversized jumper, but tucked it into my bralette to make it cropped, best trick in the game by the way, with some distressed denim. I love the contrasting colour of the light jumper here with all black and then the iconic Burberry checks.

Coat- Missguided

Jumper- Primark

Belt- Vivienne Westwood

Jeans- Topshop

Bag- Burberry

Boots- Doc Martens

Day 2-

I know, it’s crazy to be wearing a puffer jacket one day and then the thinnest of layers the next, but welcome to global warming.

I needed to get ready quickly this day to be in town for the afternoon after a gym session in the morning, therefore I was drawn to what I know has worked in the past, basically an oversized blazer, distressed denim and docs.

Blazer- Topshop

T-shirt- Zara

Belt- Vivienne Westwood

Boots- Doc Martens

Day 3-

For day three, I was just heading into town again for the day for some food and a day out with my boyfriend so opted for a cute-casual look. I absolutely love mixing a distressed and grunge look with designer pieces, for example my YSL bag or mixing these pieces with stacks of jewelry to keep it Isla.

I also, love how I’m using a Starbucks vegan latte as an accessory.

T-shirt- Vintage Harley Davidson

Shorts- River Island

Everything else- same as above.

Day 4-

This was the day I had my interview for Topshop so I wanted to wear something that I felt represented me down to a T, but also an outfit that I felt comfortable in and I knew I’d love wearing. Again, I feel that when I’m wearing items such as Docs or distressed tees, I love to pair them with more feminine items, for example the skirt, or even by a simple adjustment of just tying my t-shirt to make it cropped. I also think a bit of skin and the colour of the skirt contrast the blocks of black so well.

Day 5-

For day five, I decided to treat myself for getting the job at Topshop with some retail therapy, trust me. Can you tell this is one of my fave tees yet?

Skirt- Topshop

Sunglasses- Gucci

Trainers- Nike

Day 6-

I’m clearly obsessed with my Docs, so for this look I paired them with some cord shorts and an oversized jumper. I love messing around with proportions, as you can too see in my last outfit. I love this look as it is rather monochromatic with then the three pops of black.

Sweatshirt- Primark

Shorts- Urban Outfitters

Bag- Zara

Day 7-

I got too excited to go out for drinks with my boyfriend in the Northern Quarter, to again celebrate my new job in the evening and forgot to get any outfit pics, so a mirror pic it is. I love how relaxed, yet chic this outfit is. I paired an oversized ‘Sass Queen’ hoodie with a shirt dress and again my Docs.

Hoodie- Sass Queen (This hoodie comes with detachable pompoms on the adjustable strings, so as you can probably imagine I’m absolutely obsessed with this brand.)

Shirt Dress- Zara

Turning 20, make it like your birthday everyday

So, it’s been over three weeks since my twentieth birthday and honestly it was one of the best birthday’s I’ve ever had. I went back home to Liverpool after being in Manchester for weeks. I had a week full of; sun, tattoos and most importantly it was filled with my amazing family and friends. I was well and truly treated and blessed with so many lovely moments and gifts over my birthday week (yes, a week it’s me, a typical Taurus I’ll drag anything on if I can). Therefore, I thought I’d share and document this truly insane and beautiful week that I had with you through some snaps I took during this week, therefore you can see; what I got up to, what I wore and what I was so lucky to receive from the people around me.

So I left glorious Manchester on a Bank Holiday weekend with my boyfriend and headed for my Dad and fiancees, which by the way was the worst idea ever, do not travel on a Bank Holiday, ever. However, the weather, on the other hand, was something I could defiantly not complain about. I arrived in Liverpool and just soaked in the sun until the following morning when I would be getting my first birthday present. The Saturday consisted of my getting my second piece of ink which I am so obsessed with. I keep getting lots of compliments on my piece, as well as everyone seeming to be asking why I got a leopard tattooed on me and the answer is because let’s be honest it is the most me tattoo to ever exist, a sassy, lil leopard with Tiffany, white diamonds on it’s neck, yes please. Honestly, I got this piece to not only remember my own cat that passed away last year, but too as a reminder of strength. By the way, I coped with extremely well as I seem to not be able to take any pain whatsoever I actually seemed to enjoy the process more this time. After I got my tattoo, we had some family time with my grandparents and had a lovely chilled evening ready for my birthday the following day.

I spent my birthday with everyone that I love and the weather was insane so it was such a lovely day. After my birthday I spent time at my Mum’s with my boyfriend catching up with high school friends, family and spending some time in Liverpool. We spent a few days in Liverpool and just spending time in my home city, basically allowing myself to spend some of my birthday dollar and eat and drink whatever I wanted.

So I’m just going to show you what I wore over the week, I did’t document all days as I seemed to be having too much fun and I honestly just wanted to switch off for a bit, but I just wanted to share what I was loving wearing in the warm weather, as well as just showing you some images that I love from my birthday week.

The image below was taken from the Saturday and our first day in Liverpool, meaning tattoo day, I just wanted something cool and comfortable so opted for an oversized t-shirt, denim, mini skirt and my go to trainers at the moment.

What I’m Wearing-

Sunglasses- Gucci

T-shirt- Vans

Denim skirt- Zara

Trainers- Nike (These trainers go so well with a statement sock, for example these really cute ones from Primark.)

What I got for my Birthday-

I also wanted to show what I got for my Birthday to show you some pieces that I will be styling over the following months and to just share as I personally love reading and watching what people are gifted for such occasions so here we go.

IMG_0302IMG_0295

I had to purchase the ‘Her Art’ t-shirt and the zebra, faux horse hair bumbag from Zara with my birthday money as they are both great statement summer pieces. The t-shirt looks so cute with shorts, denim skirts and flared trousers.
I also received my favourite perfume which I wear daily, Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche. All the important women in my life seem to have worn this perfume too. which makes the scent extra special.

These Playboy X Missguided joggers were on my wishlist for so long and I cannot wait to rock them when I’m in the cinema (basically tomorrow for Detective Pikachu, yes please) or having down days at University, yet I still want to keep it Isla.

IMG_0305

These chunky trainers are from Matalan and are an absolute dream for the price that they were. They are not super heavy as are most chunky trainers so they are a steal. I can’t wait to pair them with mini dresses and midi dresses for summer. IMG_0296IMG_0291

So I have literally wanted to purchase a pair of Docs for so long, but I honestly didn’t ever think that I’d get the wear out of them but I finally decided to bite the bullet and go and get a pair, but my boyfriend beat me to it and got me a pair for my birthday. I am literally obsessed with them and love pairing them with cute, feminine outfits to contrast them with more girly vibes. I’ve worn them for the last four days so I’m clearly obsessed.IMG_0293

I’m also really into astrology at the moment as I think it can really help you become a good judge of character as well as getting to know your own traits, which explains a lot about yourself once you start learning, trust me. I also got ‘An Edited Life’ by Anna Newton, I love reading books with diversity like this, contents include; fashion, organisation skills and general life advice.

Soleil Tan De Chanel- This product is amazing for bronzing after contouring your face, as well as just bronzing your complexion for no make-up days when you have fake tanned.

Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Face Primer- This product is honestly what you need in your life, it is perfect for no make-up days as it blurs and brightens your complexion, it too works amazing with make-up as a primer and to add to the glow of your make-up.

One of my main birthday gifts was my leopard tattoo, I’ve been wanting a new tattoo for a while and always had this in mind to add to my MWAH and it is really just a bit of me. Who doesn’t love a leopard in a diamond choker?

I really enjoyed writing this post to share not only my birthday gifts and recently purchased items, but too to show you what I’m loving and wearing at the moment. This post is definitely not a boast and I am so grateful for every gift I received. I just personally really enjoy reading posts like this so I hope you enjoyed too.

You know the situation we’re all guilty of, for example when we’ve finally caught up with that friend after a year of making excuses with each other about why and how we’re all too busy to meet up, yes that’s it, life does really get in the way. For some reason or another I seem to have let my passion go, maybe it was to do with the fact that I did give up and didn’t persist, or maybe I let my studies or social life get in the way, or maybe I just got lazy, got bored and gave up. After weeks and months of scrolling through Instagram in the hope that my blog was just going to magically rise up from the ashes and publish itself again, today I for some reason or another realised that if I want this as a career I need to jump back on the horse again, and this is something that I love to do so why should I just abandon it?

blog 20blog 22

I feel at this point it is so important to say that life does really get in the way and self-care and taking time out is one of the most important methods we need in life to take care of ourselves, we really do lose the sense of who we are and what we want out of life sometimes, and especially at my age. I seemed to have discovered a side of life that wasn’t just studying all day everyday and that I can indeed have a social life as well as studying and working hard. So for the last year, yes I have been working hard and studying for my second year, studying English at Manchester Metropolitan, but this year, I hate to admit it but I seem to have finally understood what life is really about and how you spend your time is crucial. Of course, I spend time studying, working out and trying to succeed in these fields of my life, however, it is so important to realise that you need to focus on the things in life that matter to you in the short term and in the long term. Over the last year I have spent time studying and doing the tedious duties in life that we have to do, however, I seemed to have chilled out significantly and I can actually say that I have had one of the best years and terms of my life, whether this be due to my friends, family or my boyfriend, I am doing the things I want to do, so yes it is down to me too, and I am having so much fun, I am really living my best life.

However, with this came the abandonment of something that I have so much passion and care for, my blog. For some reason or another I just gave up, I got tired of writing and feeling like I was getting nowhere with my passion. Yet, I seemed to have had a wake-up call, I know that I have what it takes and I want to document my fashion findings, favourite pieces or even life advice to whoever may read this. I know that this is what I want to do, and maybe I am posting this piece to remind myself of why I am doing this, but I know that this is what I want to do and I want to be honest and say why I stopped writing, but I am coming back even stronger and with even more content this time. As I always say fashion really is my heart, it is my biggest love and fashion is always there to make my day and life that little bit better.

So with all of this realisation, I’m finally back doing what I really love again. A lot has changed in the year that I’ve stopped blogging, the new chop being a part of this, but my obsession with everything fashion related has only grown stronger. Fashion is a major part of my life and everyone who comes into my life seems to be aware of that from the onset, maybe that’s part to do with my materialistic star sign, of maybe it’s really down to how fashion makes me feel. Let’s be honest it is clear that I’ve changed dramatically as a person, but especially I have changed my style dramatically, as I seemed to have always done overtime. However, I do know what my style is now, I have grown significantly as an individual over the last year, yet I have too become a lot more comfortable in my own skin and body, this is clearly reflected in my confidence and style as I really do know what I like and what I dislike nowadays.

As I have stated, my personal style has altered dramatically since last year, I’m really trying find clothes that are more minimalistic in order to pair perfectly with statement pieces, also pieces that are comfy af with having to go to uni for only a few hours I want to look and feel put together, but still feel the comfort of my duvet. (This is why joggers with a blazer is such a vibe for any non-student wondering.) For example, the statement bumbag and chunky trainers go perfectly with some vintage ‘Levis’, a printed crop and a statement leather Western-style jacket. Similarly, the key pieces that seem to compliment the style that I keep consuming at the moment are; flared trousers, like the ‘Stella McCartney’ ones in the above images, chunky trainers (trainers in any kind), vests or cropped t-shirts, over-sized hoodies and an excessive amount of jewelry (Dua lipa is that you?). These items all seem to be my go to basics at the moment.

This post is to not only welcome myself back, but to explain why I left and to get you more up to date. I’m going to be posting weekly from now on as well as posting on my Instagram page, stories and IGTV at @islaerobertson.

This the start of not only a new chapter on this blog, but a whole collection of chapters.

Fashion and The Future

I wanted to write this post to not only make this site a bit more personal but to just talk about fashion in general and why it is such a big part of my life. From an early age I wasn’t always into fashion, when I was really young I just remember that my main priorities were not how I looked and how I presented myself to the world but just who was playing out today, but I suppose when you are young, people care less about appearance. I can’t really remember being that interested in fashion when I was younger, however, I remember that my parents were always both well dressed, my mum’s Versace boots seem to stick out in my mind. However, I would say that when I became a teenager, I remember being more and more fascinated by celebrity culture and this is, I suppose in a weird way, how I started taking notice of the fashion world. I remember learning designers such as Thierry Mugler, Versace and Nicola Formichetti from the likes of Lady Gaga and Katy Perry (I had a great music taste when I was 12, as you can see). Oh, and America’s Next Top Model.

However, although in high school I do remember loving major trends such as Hollister and Jack Wills, I love how I thought this was fashion (the irony here is that the picture taken below is taken in Jack Wills, I felt nostalgic ok? And besides my polo matched the wall, so I mean it was all for the blog). Sixth form seemed to be the years when I really seemed to not only experiment with my style but I too found out that fashion really was my thing. I remember being in sixth form, people would look forward to seeing what I was wearing, because a new day in college seemed to translate in Isla’s head to a new faux fur coat each day. I feel as though this was definitely my experimenting stage, although I look back and love some of my outfits from the last three years, I now really know what I like, what I don’t and what works well. I think in high school and college I may have used fashion as a way to be more confident, however, I honestly know that it really is my passion and what I love, my parents now know that it wasn’t just a phase (I had many). Although, fashion definitely does bring confidence, I feel as though you need to create that for yourself, rather than masking  the problems with what you wear.

I also wanted to write about where I get my inspiration from, although this does change rather regularly. So firstly, and most obliviously I get my inspo from those at the top, designers and catwalk shows really are the most exciting times of the year. Inspiration then too comes from the models, especially their street style, love them or hate them Gigi and Bella Hadid seem to always have the best style off the catwalk as well as the likes of Kaia Gerber, Kendall Jenner and Alexa Chung, to name a few. Similarly, as a result of  designers, the high street is too a place for inspiration, not only the shops but too, to see what people are strutting down the streets. Music is such a fashion inspiration to me, not only does music make you feel or see in a different light, but it can help you gain some style. From indie, to pop or rap it can affect how you dress, for better or for worse depending on your own personal style. However, I have to say that a huge part of my inspiration comes from Instagram, I am constantly scrolling down my feed and following new fashion bloggers everyday. They seem to show me different ways to style pieces that I may have not necessarily thought of myself, instantly giving that piece a new lease of life.

In the present, fashion is one of those things in life that makes me so excited, I see new pieces on the high street or in magazines and find myself thinking of how I would style them or, this is the usual case, when can I buy them? This leads me on to my future, I don’t know exactly what I would love to do with my love for fashion, I love journalism, this blog and even personal shopping or styling. But what I do know is that fashion will most definitely be in my future. A friend told me the other day that they didn’t really understand why I am so obsessed with fashion and designers etc, but once they got to know me better, they understood that I view the clothes not as a way to show wealth or confidence, although in some cases people do view fashion as both of these factors, and I am very happy with the confidence that fashion and style gives to people, including myself. I view fashion as art, which is what fashion really is at the end of the day; walking, living and breathing art.

4 Days, 4 Outfits

I finally picked up my new camera on Wednesday (yay), so I was clearly ready to get snapping. My new baby is now with me wherever I go, including university, which is were I have been for most of the four days, so this post is dedicated to showing you what I’ve been wearing on campus and loving at the moment.  The weather this week was definitely feeling more like spring in comparison to the last couple of weeks and ‘The Beast from the East’, which caused me to be in pyjamas and ski coats for a good 80% of the time

I have a few favourite pieces from the week, the first being this oversized cardigan, it is just so beautiful for this time of year and the puffed sleeves of the cardigan are very on trend. I seem to have gathered a new obsession this week too, striped socks, or any jazzy socks in general really, they just add a whole new level to an outfit and make my normal all black or neutral outfits pop (I’m trying to limit the amount of black I wear at the concern that people think I’m a goth). Finally, BAKER BOY HATS, need I say more? I’ve owned this trend for a good few months and appreciated the masses of girls owning the trend on the streets. However, my previous baker boy was just to small for my big head, so shout out to Topshop for finally producing the baker boy that does not suck your skull and brain in. The hats just add such a cool yet chic vibe to any outfit.

So wearing this amazing, oversized cardigan seemed like a great idea walking to uni in the sun until I came back after dark and it was absolutely freezing, but I mean it went so well with the outfit so it’s all good. February Favourites

So February is over and thank goodness it did not drag like January did, February is one of the best months for anyone interested in fashion as most S/S shows are previewed, including London and Paris Fashion Week. With new seasons, come new trends which formed my basis for this post. Some months my fashion changes greatly and I think that this was one of those months, I’ve recently been feeling the sports luxe trend, which I still of course love, I have too been into more relaxed styles, however, I feel as if recently I’ve been transgressing to my more preppy and put-together vibe. Although, I’m not going to lie, I honestly just dress to how I am feeling on that day when I get changed.

The first favourite I have for February is this grey faux fur coat from Cameo Rose at New Look, I did not expect to find such a great piece in New Look, however it is literally THE perfect faux fur. I love how oversized the collar of the coat is making it have a perfect silhouette when you wear it. This coat just dresses up any outfit and is a perfect colour for spring. It looks cute with skirts and cool with jeans so it is definitely a piece worth every penny.

The second trend (which will never not be in the spotlight) I’m loving at the moment is stripes, I’ve always loved striped shirts but lately I’m really enjoying striped jumpers. I’ve had this Zara one (second picture) for a while but I have recently found new ways to style it, which I think is why I’m loving the vibes stripes bring. I love thicker stripes as I think they work better with my block colour outfits. Not going to lie I think I’m feeling my inner Megan Ellaby, release your inner tomboy and child as Megan would say. On a side note I think it is amazing how in the spotlight Manchester fashion bloggers are at the moment from bloggers like Megan to Sophia Rosemary and Hannah Whiting, it is very inspiring and exciting.

Shearling jackets, yes I gave in and jumped on the bandwagon for this the trend, some might say it’s basic and although every girl may own a Topshop faux shearling jacket, it is not given enough credit. Not only are the jackets super warm (I live in Manchester) they seem to make every outfit instantly chicer, and they are great quality, I would highly recommend you come to the dark side and purchase one!

Polo shirts, need I say more. If you know me you will know my polo shirt collection is growing out of hand and all I can say is that I blame Miss Dua Lipa. They are just so cool, either; cropped, oversized, striped, plain, logo polo’s, there are just too many options and I just can’t help myself from buying more, sorry student loan.

It is also no surprise that trainers are one of the best things in the world, it is also no surprise that I love Gucci, so when they started doing trainers, yes I was in awe and was ready to splurge, well my mum was, sorry for being a fashionable child Claire, I know you’d be way richer if I didn’t have such expensive taste, but I know where I get it from so you can’t complain. They are literally one of my favourite items in my wardrobe and they go with any outfit and instantly make it look expensive and chic. They look great during the colder months but I cannot wait to wear them in summer too. If I could I would own every single pair Gucci have made and I’m not going to lie to you, I’ve got my eye on the rainbow sneakers they do. They are truly a great investment piece and make my outfits.

Faux Fur, New Look, one of my favourite things (unlike the animal head in the background, veggie life is the right life). I paired the statement coat with a simple nude tee from Miss Guided, my favourite Levi boyfriend jeans and the Gucci Ace trainers. This picture is taken at HomeMCR, I would highly recommend a visit and they have the best caramel lattes so go go go.

Back with a Vengeance

So, I’m currently sitting at my desk in what is to be called my new ‘home’, Manchester. It’s raining outside (surprise) and I’m having some summer withdrawals, as much as I love the autumn and all its wonderful fashion, I am craving my summer fix. Which gave me the idea for this blog post, I’m missing summer, which for me basically translates to missing New York City, therefore I’m going to bring you up to date with what I wore in the city that really does never sleep.

But first, a lot has changed since I last posted which is my justification for my abandonment of this lovely page. I sat my A-Level exams, passed my exams and I’m now living in one of my favourite cities studying English. Let’s all be honest, the Mancunian fashion, shops and of course its music are just some of the reasons I now call this place home. However, it likes to rain here, a lot, which is probably the reason why I’m sat here on an October day talking about summer. So let’s get into my New York style.

Going to what is known as one of the fashion capitals of the world meant that I needed to up my game, however, it decided to be 34 degrees most days which meant, scarily, for me that I had to add a level of practicality to my looks, especially my shoes. I would describe my New York style as sports luxe while managing to maintain my usual style. I also found it so fascinating that no one cares what you wear in this city, anything really does go, which is probably why my style seemed to change here.

Day 1:

As soon as we landed I could not wait to go to the room, get changed and get exploring. It was so humid when we got there and the weather decided it was going to have torrential outpours randomly, so I wanted to be comfortable (I was jetlagged), yet still make an effort. I paired an oversized t-shirt from ‘Asos’ with a ‘Topshop’ mini skirt, which is difficult to see which made the t-shirt the statement piece. I wanted my ‘Stan Smiths’ to also be a focal point as they are patterned. I then just grabbed my ‘Karl Lagerfeld’ bag, big sunglasses (to hide those jetlagged eyes) and tied a bandana nicely around my neck.IMG_8892

Day 2:

I think this day was the day when I let my inner sporty spice out. I had bought an ‘Adidas’ t-shirt and was feeling the contrast in patterns between the ‘Topshop’ ruffle skirt and pinstriped top. I lived in the Stans as I stuck for comfort for those long hikes around Central Park.IMG_8937

Day 3: aka probably one of my favourite outfits I have ever worn.

I wore the oversized ‘Asos’ t-shirt which I would happily live in forever with a checked mini from ‘Urban Outfitters’, I had just purchased some new ‘Converse’ so I was so ready to take them for a spin (completely not recommended when you are walking over 10 miles a day, but just LOOK at them.) I also accessorised with a star choker from ‘Zara’, an iced tea, (obviously) and my, which was then one day old, Yves Saint Laurent backpack, which I had just bought from Bergdorf Goodman the day before, it had been a dream bag of mine for a very long time and I haven’t looked back since.

Day 4:

This day was a struggle, the humidity made my hair look like I was in an indie boyband and the previous excitement of wearing my new ‘Converse’ had all gone wrong, which explains the slides, which actually I can now say that I don’t mind. I wore an oversized shirt dress from ‘Zara’ with the ‘Urban Outfitters’ slides.

IMG_9127

Day 5:

The day I decided it was too hot for nonsense and went for the spacebuns, which were refreshingly cooling in the city heat. I wore a logo tee from ‘Pull&Bear’, some recently purchased cream shorts from ‘Brandy Melville’, a ‘Vivienne Westwood’ belt, and some vintage ‘Nike’ trainers. IMG_9464

Day 6:

Ok, so maybe I lied because this outfit is a close favourite too, I managed to bag this amazing vintage, distressed t-shirt from ‘The Vintage Twin’, an amazing vintage shop situated in Soho, which is visited by the likes of Gigi and Bella Hadid as well as The Weeknd and Selena Gomez. The shorts are again from ‘Brandy Melville’.

IMG_9510

Day 7:

I scored another tee from ‘The Vintage Twin’ and paired it with some chic shorts from ‘River Island’ for a trip around Central Park, I was therefore forced again to wear the Nikes, I was clearly inspired again by the sporty vibes here as I decided to wear some logo socks from ‘Urban Outfitters’, I mean I could only get away with these in this city so why not?

IMG_9541

For travelling home and for the coming weeks I seemed to live in a uniform of a striped shirt, mini skirt and my beloved ‘Converse’. I am still obsessed with this denim, studded gilet from ‘Zara’, it’s so edgy but still very chic and I love to play around with this logic.

So I suppose I am back now and I promise my next piece will be more seasonal, but on dull, autumnal days when oversized jumpers and faux fur cannot get you through, why not recall those summer memories? IMG_9766

Staple Pieces of the Moment

Your basic items and personal touch always remains, but seasons and trends come and go and what they bring is additional quirks and sass. I have three main statement obsessions at the moment, all of which seem to add an edge to my usual chic style. I have found myself wanting to add more 90’s and rocker chic vibes to my usual preppy vibes, but that’s what personal style is all about, evolving. My main three staples are; biker boots, patterned tights (we all know I will make this not exist as a trend, but as a style) and anything and everything vinyl, which basically means lots of shine and rubbery noises for everyone around me to enjoy. I too have witnessed some new statement pieces at PFW and LFW this last month, of a few are berets, baker boy caps, leather, ballerina frills and mesh pieces.

I have found lately that I keep telling myself that these boots are, of course an investment, as I find myself running around Topshop, Zara and H&M in the search for even more biker boots. I purchase a pair, but then I see some that I tell myself are different (they probably are not, but this is not a therapy session for a shopaholic, so no judgements please) it’s a very vicious circle. Biker boots are just effortlessly chic and as much as I hate to say the adjective cool, they really are so damn cool. They add so much edge and grunge to a pair of oversized boyfriend jeans and a white shirt, paired with a faux fur, you areimg_6288 basically a walking talking Dior model. img_6200img_6148

The boots in the first image completely incorporate my obsession with edge and the vinyl look. The leather jacket makes me feel like I’m in a 90’s girl band, while the skirt itself is just pretty badass to be honest.

Jacket: The leather is from Zara, however, they only seem to have it in stores, but they do have similar embroidered, distressed and studded styles online: http://www.zara.com/uk/en/search

Biker Boots: Again, I seem to find things that the stores no longer have in when I come to write pieces about them, but H&M have a similar style, which is where the boots where originally purchased in the first place. http://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0426472002.html#Plum

Vinyl Skirt: http://www.topshop.com/en/tsuk/product/vinyl-zip-pocket-mini-skirt-5920635

I mention patterned tights in at least every other post that I do, but they are so toasty, but look AMAZING, and let’s be honest who doesn’t want to feel comfy and look sassy? Calzedonia seem to be the perfect match for this vibe, I mean who wouldn’t want lighting bolts on their legs?

img_6198

Ever since I watched Gossip Girl I consistently fangirled over Blair Waldorf’s beret and ran to the nearest store to buy one. I was in love, but then I forgot about my beloved beret until I saw Bella Hadid with her Charlotte Simone beret and Rihanna with her leather beret at Dior’s PFW show. So, that’s when I remembered that I only have a few months left until I want to cry because I can no longer wear faux fur, but I still have the spring months for my beret. So get your French vibes on!

I have too been fascinated by the use of ballet in high couture fashion shows, the use of mesh to create a sheer vibe and the use of mesh over jeans from those on the catwalk side-lines. Ballerina vibes are clearly very springy (excuse my awful pun).

So, there you have it the forecast for Spring suggests; Parisian chic, 90’s/ biker vibes and remember to keep your bases the same, trends come and go, but true style forever remains.

Favourites of 2017…So Far

So, I know it’s only the first month of the year and January seems to be dragging on for decades, but I’ve already found so many items that I’m obsessed with, some which I was loving last year and some which are completely brand new. I’ve also decided for this whole “new year, new you” situation that I’m going to incorporate new fashion-related items, which I’m liking into my posts. (Vivienne Westwood’s new book, for example.)

My first image portrays my go-to favourite trend of the moment very well, patterned tights. From Gucci to Chanel, A/W16 catwalk shows portrayed the edge I had been waiting to find. The mixture of high fashion couture with rock chick sass, I had found a style that I knew would be accessible and a go-to statement look for me. For real 90’s vibes, patterned tights add such an edge with a vinyl or denim skirt. Fishnet tights have also seen a comeback. As I scroll through my Instagram daily and drool at the fishnet and Gucci belt combo, I tell myself one day I will purchase the belt. The trend is highly evident in Zara and River Island, whereby they have a great deal of patterns, and glitter. Yes, you heard it right, GLITTER TIGHTS. It’s the Spice Girls vibe we have all been waiting for and I’m sure Alexa Chung has highly anticipated. The tights are great paired literally with anything black, shiny, glittery or leather, so making them perfect for special occasions, but let’s be honest with ourselves here, that’s everyday for the fashionistas. Here, I have just put on my tights, for fashion not warmth, but hey, as Moschino says fashion kills. However, wearing tights underneath jeans not only adds warmth during those chilly months, but also looks really cute, yet adding another textural dimension to an outfit. Perfect for the layering trend.

My Zara obsession isn’t just stopping with the pants. I find that they to do the best pointed boots, I mean look at them. The buckles make their edge a little bit more subtle, while the suede material allows them to be paired with boyfriend jeans, perfectly. They are super stylish and are a little longer than your average Chelsea boot, so they fit well under cropped boyfriend jeans as they sit under them nicely. Zara’s astrology bags are too cute not to feature in my favourites. They give a sense of individuality and personality, or if you’re like me you get Leo the Lion, when you’re actually a Taurus because he’s cuter. Leo brings a pop of colour too, especially in all the grey, winter weather.

Here’s to a new section of fashion-related items. Fashion books not only make a great coffee table centre piece, but also provide great reads. My favourite fashion reads of the moment are; Life Portraits: Coco Chanel, by Zena Alkayat and Nina Cosford (This book is more of a novelty item about Coco’s life), How to be Parisian, wherever you are, Sophie Mas, Audrey Diwan, Caroline De Maigret and Anne Berest, Forever Chic, Tish Jett, Get A Life, Vivienne Westwood and finally Bloom by Estée Lalonde. All books are great for any fashion obsessed individual, yet Bloom provides a great read on fashion, but lifestyle overall.

January’s forecast; oversized sleeves, edgy tights, vinyl pants and of course some faux fur to throw into the mix.
